Uncle Arthur Good, Great Grandfather James Oscar God and 1st Cousin Richard Good in late 1930's
Great Grandmother Grace Clara Good taken in her latter years though date unknown
My paternal grandmother Ruth Good Marx Weikert was the daughter of James & Grace Good and in being so I have a rather long family line in the Good family; great grandparents, obviously my grandmother, many aunts, uncles and cousins. It is the most detailed chapter of this section of my web site though still incomplete at this time.
Paternal, Great Great Good Grandfather:
John Good…born in 1845 in Pennsylvania…verified via Ohio 1880 census as he had at some point moved there but census does verify place of birth also his first son William was born there but then died/buried in Ohio. Parents are said to be from Ireland also that he died when his sons James & Arthur were both very young…family story not verified as to date I can find no record of his death or burial plot.
Maternal Great, Great Good Grandmother:
John married Lydia Stone on May 1, 1970
Lydia Stone Good….born in 1856 in Ohio:
Her parents were Jacob C. Stone born in Paris, KY 1804 died in OH 6/20/1876 & Elizabeth May Stone born in Bath county, VA 1818 died 1902 in OH, both are buried at cemetery below as well as Lydia. Elizabeth was Jacob’s 2nd marriage as he married Marie Hancock in Bourbon, KY 2/22/1830 & then Elizabeth on 8/6/1866 in Spencer, KY. Jacob also fought in the Civil War and received a pension on12/11/1873.
John & Lydia are buried at historic Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton, OH
Lydia was a nickname for Elizabeth
Children of John/Lydia:
William Edward Good born in Pennsylvania in 1873 died 2/7/1878 (Uncle) Burial:
Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton, OH
James Oscar Good born in Delphos, Ohio May 22, 1878...died in Dayton,Ohio 4/28/1945 (Great Good Grandfather)James Oscar Good marries Grace Clara Goodell on May 1, 1870(Great Good Grandmother.)Grace Clara Goodill Good born in Lytle, Ohio July 23, 1883...died in MI June 1977.
The 1900 census shows James was a servant to the Charles Rucker family in Darke, OH: Found this startling but then one needs to remember that his mother passed away in 1894 when he was but 16 and his brother Arthur was 13. A Good relative notes that the boys were basically on their own as their father John had passed before their mother Lydia.
They needed a place to live and support themselves. Arthur boarded with a family and it is there he met his wife Florence. From the 1900 census James found a place that provided a place to live and earn money while being a servant so it all became understandable. He would go on to work later for the Frigidaire Company throughout his adult life.
